TYLER FRY - Houston, Texas

Tyler FryeEver since Tyler was a kid back home in Kincardine, Ontario, all he wanted to do was play drums. When he looks back at the great fun he had following the Saturday night parades through the streets of his home town, it would have been impossible to predict what doors pipe band drumming would open for him. First tenor drumming at the age of 11, Tyler played with Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band under the tuition of Craig 'Hoss' Colquhoun before joining Milton Optimist Pipe Band as a snare drummer. Tyler developed a sound grounding in the mechanics of snare drumming under the tutelage of Doug Stronach.

Tyler joined the 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band as a tenor drummer in 1995 at the age of 13. While at the Frasers, Tyler has won three World Best Bass Section Championships as well as numerous Canadian, United States and North American Best Bass Section titles. In solo competition, Tyler has excelled by winning every top award available in North America.

Tyler transferred to The House of Edgar Shotts & Dykehead Pipe Band in 2004, fulfilling a childhood dream of his to play alongside Drum Major Jim Kilpatrick. He won the British Drum Corps Championships with the drum corps in his first season. In 2005, Tyler helped the band to win the top awards for both band and drum corps at the World Pipe Band Championships. Away from the band, Tyler is a qualified tenor drumming adjudicator with the PPBSO and regular master class instructor at workshops throughout North America, South America and Europe.

All of these attributes that Tyler possesses have been channeled by him into the TyFry™ company. A tireless perfectionist, Tyler personally ensures that every TyFry™ product is manufactured and presented to the highest possible standards. In short, if it's not good enough for Tyler - it's not good enough for you. The growth and development of the art form is at the centre of everything the TyFry™ brand stands for. Keen to support all things positive about tenor drumming, TyFry™ is proud to have fulfilled the role of main sponsor at prestigious competitions such as MHAF Gold Medal Solo Tenor Drumming Championship and Drumming for Drinks.

Chris took further piobaireachd tutelage from Pipe Major Evan MacRae but mostly from Bob Brown Jr. the son of Bob Brown of Balmoral. Chris went on to great success in professional competitions throughout the UK and whilst competing around the games was asked to come over to the States in 1986 to join the then grade one Kansas City St Andrews Pipe Band.

JON QUIGG- Baltimore, Maryland

Jon QuinnIn 1973 at the age of 13, Jon Quigg began his drumming career in the Annapolis Juvenile Pipe Band. While his influences are many, he counts as his primary influences the likes of John Bosworth, and Alex Duthart. In 1976, he moved into the professional solo competitor ranks and into the Grade 2 Denny and Dunipace Pipe Band of Washington, DC, now known as the City of Washington Pipe Band. This organization was actually established by members of the US Air Force Pipe Band in 1961, itself an extension of that branch's Drum & Bugle Corps. While 'the Denny band' has always been home, over the years he has guested with a number of groups around the world, including bands in Monterey, San Francisco, Honolulu, Tokyo and Vancouver.

In 1989, he assumed the Drum Sergeant position and helped them garner numerous North American contest wins, culminating in their winning performance at the 1999 World Pipe Band Championships. That year, he led the corps to winning the Grade 2 drum corps prize while the band also won the overall band title.

In addition to his competition career - which includes numerous solo contest wins around the country - he has recorded for Row-Loff Productions ("Lancer") and performed with the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps, as well as giving clinics around the globe. In 2009 and 2010, he oversaw the City of Washington drum corps' winning performances in the Kansas City Winter Storm drum salute contests. Most recently he was fortunate to present masters classes on pipe band drumming at Old Dominion University and at the 2012 US Association of Rudimental Drummers conference. Currently he is taking some time off from competitive drumming to work on a book that will present Scottish drumming to a wider audience. He lives near Baltimore with his wife, Beth, and MacDhu, the wonder mutt.
